Among the most important historical archaeological fortresses in Deir ez-Zor, which are located on opposite banks of the Euphrates River (Halabiya to the west and Zalabiya to the east), their history dates back to the Palmyrene and Byzantine eras, as they were built as strategic commercial and military centers to protect the borders and guard the Euphrates Valley.
