Heraclea Castle
An Abbasid archaeological site located approximately 6 to 7 kilometers west of the Syrian city of Raqqa, near the Euphrates River. It was built by Caliph Harun al-Rashid to commemorate his great victory over the Romans and his conquest of the Byzantine city of Heraclea, and is distinguished by its unique architecture and massive circular wall.
