The ruins of Resafa (historically known as Sergiopolis) are an archaeological gem located in the southwestern part of Raqqa Governorate in the Syrian Desert. Throughout the ages, the city has been distinguished by its massive stone walls, underground water reservoirs, Byzantine churches, and Umayyad palaces built by Caliph Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik.
