It is an ancient, historic mountain city located in the As-Suwayda Governorate of southern Syria, and is famous as the birthplace of the Roman Emperor Philip the Arab, who ruled Rome. The city is distinguished by its unique Roman layout built of black basalt stones, and includes prominent ruins such as the theater, baths, city gates, and rare mosaic panels.
