Al-Dhawayat Cave

Al-Dhawayat Cave is one of Syria's oldest and most prominent natural caves, situated in the enchanting, mountainous countryside of Tartus Governorate. Geologically, the cave dates back to the Quaternary period, with an estimated age of around 20 million years based on the size of the crystal formations within it. Regarding its name and location, "Al-Dhawayat" is derived from the word for "light"; small natural openings in the cave's ceiling allow sunlight to filter in, illuminating the passageways with a unique, aesthetic effect. The cave is located at an elevation of approximately 750 meters above sea level.
