Damascus Citadel

The Citadel of Damascus is a fortified castle built in the Middle Ages. It is considered one of the most important examples of military and Islamic architecture in Syria during the Ayyubid period and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. The Citadel is located in the northwestern corner of the walls of Damascus, the capital of Syria, between Bab al-Faradis and Bab al-Jabiyah. It is part of the Old City of Damascus and is surrounded by a moat approximately 20 meters wide.
