Deir Semaan

Deir Semaan—also known as the Monastery of Thelanissos—is a monastery in Syria, located near the city of Aleppo. It was named Deir Semaan in honor of the Syrian saint and ascetic, Simeon the Stylite, who was born in 389 AD in the village of Sisan (south of Mount Simeon—part of the Jabal al-Zawiya range). In 412 AD, he took refuge at the Monastery of Thelanissos, which subsequently became known as the Monastery and Fortress of Simeon.
