Aleppo is the economic capital of Syria and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, with a history of settlement dating back more than 8,000 years. Located in northwestern Syria, the city boasts a historically strategic position as a major trading hub on the Silk Road.
A journey through ancient history (Old Aleppo)
Begin your day with a visit to the famous Aleppo Citadel and enjoy the panoramic view of the city from its heights. Then head to the covered souk (such as the recently restored Souk al-Saqatiyah and Khan al-Harir) to buy spices and traditional Aleppo soap. Stroll through the historic Christian quarter of al-Jdeideh with its narrow squares, and visit the Jumblatt House or the Ghazaleh House. Schedule a lunch break at one of the traditional restaurants surrounding the citadel or in the Aziziyah neighborhood to sample Aleppo's most famous dishes, such as various types of kibbeh and Aleppo kebab with cherries. Finally, attend an evening of traditional music or a performance of Aleppo songs and muwashahat at one of the cultural centers or heritage restaurants to experience the city's artistic identity.
